Jaime H. Moreno is Senior Manager, Microprocessor
Architecture, at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in New York. He joined
the IBM Research Division as a Research Staff Member in 1992, where he has
performed research on a variety of microprocessor architecture and performance
analysis topics, including high-end superscalar processors, game processors,
low-power embedded and digital signal processors. In his current role as Senior
Manager, he leads a department whose research activities include
power/reliability aware microarchitectures, systems technology and
microarchitecture interactions, advanced systems architecture, and advanced
compiler technology. His department's efforts address the full range of IBM
processors and systems. Throughout the years, Jaime has made technical
contributions to and technical management of high-performance microprocessor
research efforts, leading teams that have participated in the development of
innovative IBM processors such as Power4, Cell and z10, among others. Jaime is
an active participant in the development of IBM Research Global Technology
Outlook, a yearly effort which serves as a source of insights for strategic
research and development guidelines for IBM. Besides advancing the state of the
art in processor microarchitecture and compiler technology, his department's
current efforts are focused on the architecture challenges in the transition
into new forms of subsystems required to continue the historic system-level
performance/power trends, in light of the slowdown in CMOS technology.
In addition to multiple publications in
journals and conferences, Jaime is coauthor of the books "Introduction to
Digital Systems" (Wiley, 1999) and "Matrix Computations on Systolic-Type Arrays
(Kluwer, 1992). Jaime holds 17 patents in processor architecture, and has been
recognized as Master Inventor at IBM Research. He led the development within IBM
Research of the Microprocessor Exploration Toolset (MET), which has been
released to the academic community for the exploration of microarchitecture
power-performance tradeoffs with accuracy.
Before joining IBM Research, Jaime was a faculty member at the Department
of Electrical Engineering, University of Concepcion, Chile, where he also held
the Chairman position from 1981 to 1983. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees
in Computer Science from the University of California Los Angeles, and a degree
in Electrical Engineering from the University of Concepcion, Chile.
